Budding artist Paris demands more respect
I am not a spoilt airhead
El Reg's fave jetsetting blonde has confirmed what some of us have suspected all along - that's she's not actually an international ambassador for celebutard vacuity, but rather an ordinary gal with serious artistic ambitions.
Speaking to Heat magazine, "One Night in" Paris Hilton explained: "I think a lot of people have seen me on The Simple Life and think I'm a 'spoilt airhead'. But I was playing a character. The producers said they wanted Nicole and I just to be crazy and funny and say outlandish things."
She insisted: "I'm a lot more serious and shy... and if I'm not out, having to be, you know, 'on', I'm at home just chilling and wearing sweat pants."
Well, those among you who are inclined to take Ms Hilton's claim to ordinariness with a pinch of salt are refererred to documentary filmmaker Adria Petty, who last year premiered Paris, Not France.
Petty said of the film - which shows Paris over 12 months "at work on red carpets, in her business dealings, taking about her image, and relaxing at home" - that her subject "certainly wasn't lounging on a chaise eating cherries".
She elaborated: "I didn't really go in with too many prejudices against her, but just like everyone else I wondered what she was all about. As soon as I met her, I knew within a minute that she was a cool chick, a smart girl, and hard-working."
Indeed, when she's not working her ass off to make an honest buck, Hilton is likely to be found worrying a canvas in preparation for her assault on the world of fine art. She told Heat: "I have a room in my house where I paint. I've been offered an exhibition, which I might do next year."
Tantalising stuff, and inside sources have recently further teased potential collectors of Paris paintings by revealing her debut might feature a self-portrait based on Edouard Manet's Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe, a Chihuahua rendered in the style of Francis Bacon and entitled Awww, coyotes ate my dawg and a tribute to Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon showing the artist, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie, Samantha Ronson and their MTV-sponsored New Best Friend in state of considerable undress in a Barcelona brothel. ®
