Large percentages of American men and woman would rather give up sex than be disconnected from the internet, chip giant Intel has claimed.

The chip maker's internet usage behaviour study, which examined the behaviour of 2119 US adults, found that 46 per cent of women and 30 per cent of men would opt to go without a bonk for two weeks rather than go without internet access for the same period.

Interestingly, 49 per cent of women aged between 18 and 34 said they would go without nookie in favour of some online time. More women aged between 35 and 44 have lost interest in bedtime burlesque, because over half – 52 per cent – opted for two weeks' web surfing instead of 14 days' shagging.

The trend is reversed for men. Whilst 39 per cent of chaps in the 18-34 band would abandon rumpy-pumpy for the web, only 23 per cent of those aged between 35 and 44 would do the same.
