Armed robbers yesterday made off with "at least" £70m (€80m, $102m) in jewels after storming the prestigious Harry Winston store near Paris's Champs-Elysee and relieving the shop of pretty well all its stock.

According to the BBC, roughly 10 customers and 15 staff were in the premises late yesterday afternoon when the four blaggers, some disguised as women, burst in. Police reports suggest they "appeared to know their way around", addressed some staff by name and pinpointed "where stock not on display was being stored".

During the robbery, the band turned over display cases and some staff are reported injured.

The BBC notes that the store - lying on the "fashionable" Avenue Montaigne - was taken for an estimated €10m in booty during another armed robbery almost exactly 12 months ago. ®
