Apple may not have scored too well in the latest Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics, but that hasn’t stopped it from claiming that its redesigned MacBooks are the "world’s greenest family of notebooks".

In a new advert, the voiceover guy states that a MacBook’s “advanced aluminium and glass enclosure” is “completely recyclable”. He also claims that the range is engineered to be so efficient that each runs on a “quarter of the power of a single light bulb”.

MacBooks are made without many of the harmful chemicals, such as mercury, found in other computers - or so Apple's ad claims.

The company is far from perfect in Greenpeace’s eyes though. The eco organisation's latest report awarded it 4.3 points out of a possible ten, and Apple came fourth from the bottom when ranked against the green credentials of the 18 leading electronics firms.

Greenpeace criticised Apple’s e-waste criteria, for example, because the Mac maker doesn’t publish information about the amount of recycled material used in its packaging.
