Sony only recently launched firmware version 5.00 for the PlayStation Portable, but the electronics giant’s already inked in an update because it discovered a storage problem on the portable player.

Firmware 5.00 enabled direct access to the PlayStation Store from the PSP, enabling you to perform all sorts of tasks, such as signing up for the PlayStation Network and accessing the PlayStation Store's wares, directly from the console itself – provided you’re within a Wi-Fi zone, of course.

However, the firm’s since found “an issue related to larger capacity Memory Stick Pro Duos” that means a message is displayed stating you don’t have enough store space to download something, even though you do.

For example, you could try and download a game or video from the PlayStation Store onto an empty 16GB Memory Stick Pro Duo card and still be told that there’s not enough spare capacity on the card.

Needless to say, Sony’s promised that version 5.01 will be released soon to address the problem. Now all PSP fans need is a hardware fix to mend the PSP 3000’s screen.
