George Kidd, boss of the premium rate regulator PhonepayPlus, has resigned.
No official details have been given on the reason for his departure, but it's understood to be timed ahead of a series of new rules PhonepayPlus will impose in the next few months.
Kidd led the regulator formerly known as Icstis for eight years, recently through heavy criticism and reform following its failure to prevent the TV phone-in scandals.
He said: "I am immensely proud of the work PhonepayPlus has done to make sure both consumers and businesses receive a fair deal. Together, we have forged a productive new relationship with Ofcom, proactively addressed problems in certain parts of the market and created a new identity that brings us closer to all our stakeholders."
Kidd's resignation is effective from 31 October. Paul Whiteing, currently Director of Policy and Innovation, will replace him until a permanent successor is appointed. ®
