Armed police officers yesterday shot dead a devil dog which attacked four people during a uncontrolled rampage in Mitcham, South London.

According to the Telegraph, the terrier (breed unspecified) escaped from its owner's garden in South Lodge Avenue through a hole in the fence. It promptly "bit a young child’s leg at around 11:20am", and attacked a bus driver two minutes later.

At 11:30, a 50-year-old woman called police to say she'd also been injured, and "shortly afterwards a fourth person was taken to hospital with facial injuries".

Cops deployed "scores of officers in two London boroughs, dog handlers and a police helicopter" to pursue the animal, but couldn't locate it until 1:23pm, when firearms officers popped a cap in the satanic mutt's ass.

The four victims were taken to hospital with "non-life threatening" injuries, although one "may suffer serious scarring after being bitten on the face".

The dog's owner, a 29-year-old woman, was arrested and stands accused of "possessing a dog dangerously out of control".

The latest canine execution is the second south of the river this year. Back in June, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier was similarly dispatched by armed cops on the mean streets of Croydon, having laughed off a tasering. The pooch's 13-year-old owner was cuffed for "possession of a dangerous dog in a public place". ®
