Freesat notches up 100,000 sales
Not everyone's HD savvy though
Brits bought 100,000 Freeset set-top boxes in the five months since the free-to-air satellite TV service began broadcasting. But the firm’s warned that some people are still confused about its HD offering.
Freesat, which launched in early May and provides a way for consumers to watch digital TV over a satellite link, was unsurprisingly pleased with the sales figure.
The company said it expects sales to increase further in the run-up to Christmas, but then who wouldn't expect that?
However, Emma Scott, MD of Freesat, said that some people still think that buying an HD TV means all content, no matter what channel they’re watching, will be magically transformed into high definition.
Numerous football events have already been broadcast in HD by Freesat, which is backed by the BBC and ITV. That's in addition to regularly broadcast HD shows, such as Heroes and Strictly Come Dancing.
