Samsung's Pixon: official and, hopefully, coming soon

The firm’s going for the drip, drip, drip release in terms of details and, so far, has only been willing to release a teaser specifications email that, as predicted, states that the talker’s called Pixon.

The 13.8mm-thick phone’s camera has a 16x zoom and a dual-power LED flash, which is teamed together with face and smile detection, and “advanced shake reduction”. Video capture and playback’s also been confirmed.

Quad-band network connectivity and 7.2Mb/s HSDPA 3G will allow Pixon to compete with the market’s leading handsets, such as the iPhone 3G and the T-Mobile G1 - previewed here.

But Samsung’s left fans guessing by failing describe any of the phone’s non-standard features, such as Pixon’s “online widget for easy access to frequently used functions”.

An application called “Photo Browser (Accelerometer Sensor)” is on-board, which sounds like the feature shown in the video where the user shakes the phone to the left to go to the next image.

A UK launch date or price haven’t been confirmed yet, but it’s rumoured that the phone will cost $980 (£545/€683) and be launched next month.
