Microsoft has served up a tasty treat for Zune users: free Wi-Fi access in thousands of McDonald’s eateries.

The announcement means any US customer who’s splashed out on one of Microsoft’s recently launched Wi-Fi enabled Zune MP3 players, can now access Zune Marketplace – Microsoft’s version of iTunes – whenever they pass under the Golden Arches.

Ronald McDonald’s currently got 9800 of his fast food joints wired up for Zune-based downloads.

The deal follows Microsoft’s announcement that Zune 3.0 - the latest version of Zune software – is now available to download. The modernised software allows punters to buy songs from FM radio stations over Wi-Fi, though a feature called “Buy from FM”.
