The Free Software Foundation is asking for someone travelling back from China to bring a small package back with them, presumably leading to some interesting questions at airport security.

The request, posted at the top of the Gnu.org web site, simply asks if anyone travelling to Boston from Shanghai or Beijing could possibly bring back the "small package", with a contact email address for anyone interested.

We tried contacting the address concerned to get more details, but have yet to hear back. Our bet is that the FSF is planning to smuggle vital Red Flag Linux source code out of China, and can't work out how to send attachments by email.

Carrying small packages into America at the behest of a practically-communist organisation like the FSF might be considered risky, but presumably not as risky these days as wearing a Transformer's t-shirt in an airport.

Thanks to reader Gerald Combs for the tip-off. ®
