Kodak has launched itself into the so-called “pocket” camcorder market with an HD video camera that’s all about style and portability.

Kodak's Zi6: captures 720p HD video

The Zi6 only shoots video at 720p, but Kodak’s obviously targeting the snazzy snapper at those searching for a simple point-and-shoot camcorder, given that the firm says there are “no lens cap, dials to turn or settings to adjust”.

And the model sports some decent features. For example, the Zi6 shoots video at up to 60 frames per second, with content encoded in MPEG 4 and recorded onto SDHC memory cards of up to 32GB in capacity. There's also 128MB of on-board memory - handy, as no memory card is bundled. Data can be transferred directly onto a PC, thanks to a USB port that flips out from the Zi6’s side.

The camcorder also sports a 2.4in LCD screen that’s built into the front of the camcorder’s body, making the device look less like a video shooter and more like a mobile phone.

It comes with a pair of AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries and battery charger, along with PC software that'll format and upload your footage in a YouTube-friendly way.

Kodak’s Zi6 is set to become available in the US this September in either a pink or black body. It will cost around $180 (£90/€120). A UK release date or price hasn't been given.
