Samsung’s Soul handset only recently touched down in the UK - see today's review - but the manufacturer has already announced a candybar version of the phone.

The new model is called the Soulb and said to contain “all the merits of Soul DNA,” except for the fact that Samsung’s replaced the Soul's original five-megapixel camera with a lower spec three-megapixel snapper.

Samsung’s Soulb is slightly slimmer than the Soul, measuring just 9.9mm from front ot back. Although the Soulb is pictured in the Soul’s brushed metal body, the manufacturer said that the new phone will also be available in platinum silver, metallic black, pink or amethyst violet.

Most of the Soulb’s capabilities and features remain roughly the same as Soul's though. The new model has a 2in display, whilst supporting tri-band GSM connections and HSDPA downloads, albeit at the slower speed of up to 3.6Mb/s.

The phone still handles a variety of media formats, including MP3 and AAC, whilst capturing video at up to 15 frames per second. Snaps and videos can either be stored to the phone’s 1GB internal memory or onto a Micro SD card. Bluetooth 2.0, with Enhanced Data Rate, is also built-in for short-range data transfers.

Samsung’s Soulb will be available in Germany next month, with an unwrapping across the rest of Europe at some later date.
