Microsoft soothes Vista pain with Bossploitation flick

Tired of being taken seriously

Microsoft may not excel at delivering software on-time, but it does make one hell of a lame video. Witness an internal promotional flick about the firm's Vista operating system which turned up on YouTube.

Those crazy cats from Redmond have mocked The Boss in the video in which some Microsoft employees perform as Bruce ServicePack and the Vista Street Band.

Their song Rockin' Our Sales is supposed to be a "funny" take on Bruce Springsteen's hit Dancing in the Dark, which is taken from the great man's much-loved album Born in the USA.

They've even got their very own Courtney Cox appearing in the video too. Bruce, of course, introduced Cox to the world in a music video shortly before she became the first person ever to say tampon on US TV.

Those of you not able to sit through to the end of this painful, stomach-churning experience from Microsoft can rest-assured that we at El Reg, after several failed attempts, managed to watch it to the eye-bleeding end in which the band sings:

"And we're gonna keep rockin' with SP1. Rock our sales with Vista and SP1. Our ecosystem rocks!"

And for anyone with lingering doubts that the video is a genuine Microsoft masterpiece, here's the official word:

"This video was developed by us as a way to poke fun at ourselves a bit. We thought folks internally would get a kick out of not taking themselves so seriously all the time.

"As a result, this little gem came to life and has caused quite a few laughs in our hallways. It is no way a serious attempt at marketing Windows to external audiences and was developed for internal consumption only."

So there you have it, it's nice to see that Microsoft is laughing at Vista too. ®
