Since the Wii’s arrival, gamers have moaned about that little wire connecting the console's main Remote to the Nunchuck. Gaming peripherals manufacturer Nyko has cut the cord and created a wireless alternative.

Nyko's Cord-Free: does away with wires

Nyko’s Cord-Free system is very simple. Firstly, a wireless dongle slots into the Remote at the point where the Nunchuck’s cord would normally connect. The unit’s powered by two AAA batteries.

Secondly, the Nunchuck slots into a specialist holder with a cord wrap at the bottom, which is necessary because the Nunchuck’s cable isn’t removable. The unit makes the Nunchuck look like a joystick, but also means it can stand neatly beside the console when not in use.

Nyko claims you’ll get around 60 hours of gameplay out of its set-up and gamers can stand up to four-and-a-half metres away from the Wii before the wireless connection drops out, which is a little under the maximum operating distance stated by Nintendo.

Cord-Free for the Wii should be available online later this month for $20 (£10/€14). A European price hasn’t been given.
