The Wii may have brightened up the gaming industry, but until now it’s only been an angular and bland white console. So a German retailer is attempting to inject a little colour into the consoles with a new line of controllers.

Snakebyte's Riimote: a colourful alternative to the white 'Wiimote'?

Cunningly dubbed the Riimote, they come in a choice of black or a vivid purple. No mere clip-on faceplates, retailer Snakebyte’s Riimotes are complete controllers, ready to use as soon as you take one out of the box and put the batteries in.

Aside from a few asthetic changes, such as rounded button edges, very little’s been changed from Nintendo’s official Wii Remote. The bad news is that Snakebyte's made no mention of an accompanying coloured Nunchuck, which is a shame.

Snakebyte’s Riimote will be available from its German website on 8 February, priced at €40 (£25/$50).
