Correction of the day Anytime a major acquisition such as Sun's $1bn buy of MySQL hits, analysts around the globe rush out their takes on the deal, hoping to prove their fierce insight. Journalists sit back as the analysts' notes flood their inboxes.
One particular missive on the Sun/MySQL caught our attention. Ovum cracked us with "Sun bags the L in LAMP."
Oh dear.
Yes, Ovum proved its acronym woes with that eye-catching headline. LAMP stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl/Python/PHP, which means that Sun bought the M.
The good folks at Ovum realized their gaffe a few hours after the initial statement went out.
"Please note that our story here below that was sent out this morning was meant to be headlined 'Sun bags the M in LAMP' and not Sun bags the 'L' in LAMP. Unfortunately, there was a transcription mistake."
