The Dark Knight - 2008's biggest movie?

The Times sticks its neck out

The Times has compiled a list of what it reckons will be the 50 big movie hits of 2008, boldly sticking Batman's next outing, The Dark Knight, at the top of its blockbuster compilation.

Next up is Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince, followed by Bond 22, Iron Man, and Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, in that order.

So far, so good, but we're slightly concerned that Mamma Mia has made a showing at 13. Clearly, the paper's film buff has decided to hedge his bets lest Swedish musical pap beats the Caped Crusader into box-office submission.

Well, time will tell. For the record, this hack would rather chop off his own arm with a can-opener than sit through a couple of hours of Sex & The City, which inexplicably features at 16. Readers sharing this sentiment can express their displeasure in the Times comments section accompanying the piece. ®
