Mobile games not bringing in the bucks

Worldwide revenue dips

Revenue from mobile games slipped nine per cent during the second quarter to 30 June 2007, compared to an 11 per cent rise during the first - bad news for a market which constantly portrays itself as under-exploited.

The figures come from market analyst firm iSuppli, which attributes the drop to the fact that only a small proportion of mobile phone users ever buy a game, and those users saw nothing compelling during that period.

Certainly, iSuppli thinks this is a temporary blip, and is predicting the market will almost triple by 2011, to $6.6bn, as networked and location-aware games appeal to a wider demographic. ®
