Business software provider Oracle has acquired Dublin-based Netsure Telecom.

Netsure provides network intelligence and analytics software to communications service providers. The firm's clients include Vodafone, Cable & Wireless and Eircom.

The deal is expected to be completed later this month, but financial details of the sale were not disclosed.

"The addition of Netsure's products to Oracle's comprehensive communications applications suite is expected to help Oracle's customers improve network utilisation, optimise capacity planning and financial modelling, and streamline end-to-end network lifecycle management," said Oracle senior vice-president and general manager Bhaskar Gorti.

Dublin-based Netsure will become part of Oracle's Communications Global Business Unit. In a statement, the firm's management welcomed the deal. Netsure declined to comment to ENN on how the move will affect the firm's staff, however, or to give details of how many staff are currently employed at the company.

Analyst firm Ovum said the acquisition would complement Oracle's existing communications business.

"The communications industry is strategically important for Oracle, being one of the sectors with a high reliance on IT and, consequently, strong software spend," said David Mitchell, senior vice-president at Ovum Research.

"In terms of functionality the NetSure products fall into two categories. These two areas are complementary to the rest of the Oracle communications portfolio and position it well to provide software infrastructure support to the growing NGN phenomenon," said Mitchell.
