Intel has followed the launch of its first mobile Core 2 Extreme processor with a handful of desktop CPUs that support the chip giant's 1333MHz frontside bus upgrade.

As expected, the line-up of new processors comprises three dual-core chips and a pair of quad-cores. The quads are the 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad Q6700 and the Core 2 Extreme QX6850, which runs at 3GHz. Both contain 8MB of L2 cache - 4MB per core pair - and are priced at $530 and $999, respectively.

The dual-cores all have 4MB of L2. They are the 2.33GHz E6550, the 2.66GHz E6750 and the 3GHz E6850. They're priced at $163, $183 and $266, respectively. These prices and those of the quads are for each CPU when order by the 1000-processor tray-load.
