Dell continues to be a favoured software licencing and assurance contractor for the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

The Department of Defence announced on 29 June that Dell would receive a $17,865,560.23 contract modification for "renewal of software assurance for software that currently has a license and software assurance, and for new licenses and software assurance for new products not previously licensed".

SOCOM is the authority directing various elite, secretive US military formations such as the Navy SEALs, US Army Delta Force, Green Berets and Rangers, and the shadowy "Intelligence Support Activity"" among others. These organisations are sometimes collectively referred to as the "snake-eater" community, generally having been trained to live off snakes during jungle survival training.

In addition to annual arrangements, Dell Marketing LP has a four-year ordering period with SOCOM due to expire in January 2011. ®
