For example, the Premium four-port USB hub: a compact accessory for folk with too few ports. It's a neat look gagdet, but as you can see from Logitech's own pic, adding anything thicker than a standard USB connector blocks the other ports, a common fault with products of this kind.

More useful are the new Alto laptops stands: the Express and the Connect. The former's a simple, angled perspex sheet with rubberised ends to prevent slippage - either of the stand or the laptop sitting on top of it - and with a space beneath the computer to aid cooling.

The Connect has an altogether odder appearance. But there's method to the design madness: the Connect integrates a four-port USB hub, with three ports at the back and one at the front.

Finally, luggage - two Kinetik carriers, one a backpack, the other a briefcase, both suitable for 15.4in notebooks. Each has a plethora of pockets within its orange interior, while the black front and back panels are stiffened for extra protection.

Backpack and briefcase will set you back £70 when they go on sale mid-August ready for the new school term. You'll have to wait until September for the £50 Alto Connect, while the £20 Alto Express should hit store shelves at the start of August. July marks the arrival time of the $20 four-port hub.
