Adam Mapleson, the British gamer who was shot after intervening to help security guards facing armed robbers, has been released from hospital.

A spokeswoman for Southend Hospital told The Reg that Mapleson returned home today after a week of treatment.

Mapleson was on his way to work in IT support on Friday 25 May when he saw two men struggling with security guards outside Rayleigh railway station. He stepped in to help, but was shot in the chest. The two men got away with the cash box.

Loomis, the security firm previously known as Securitas, is offering a £25,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the thieves.

An online Get Well Soon card on gamers forum Pure Pwnage now runs to 14 pages. Mapleson was a keen player of first person shoot 'em up CounterStrike.

British Transport Police are still investigating and have released e-fit pictures of the two suspects, available here. ®
