Vodafone's email service has been down since mid-morning yesterday, leaving users cut adrift from their mail.

The company thinks the system might be up and running later today, but isn't making any promises.

Anyone hoping to access their Vodafone.net email accounts are currently being greeted by a static webpage (http://vodafone.net), which states:

"We regret to inform you that the Vodafone Mail service remains unavailable. However, please be assured we are working to restore service to you as quickly as possible and we will ensure you receive regular updates on this site with regards to the status of the incident."

A Reg reader alerted us to the problem yesterday afternoon. Since then Vodafone has posted several updates confirming that "any customers with a Vodafone.net email address will be impact[ed] by this incident".

The next update is expected at 11.30 this morning, by which point the service will have been down for 24 hours. Posts have gone up on the site every few hours since the incident first occurred.

Late yesterday Vodafone.net stated: "We are continuing to work through our recovery plan and anticipate having service restored tomorrow, Tuesday 20 March."

Vodafone currently offers no estimated fix time. The website simply says it is "still working towards service restoration today".

A spokesperson at Vodafone said an investigation into what has caused the service failure is currently underway and that "we are reasonably optimistic that service will be resumed today".

But, she also conceded that there was no water-tight guarantee the email service would be up and running any time soon. ®
