The parents among you know how it is: your kid wants that must-have item and you will stop at nothing to ensure your offspring's happiness.

Indeed, some long-suffering, cash-dispensing mums and dads will recall with a chill in their hearts the Thunderbirds Tracey Island emergency, which saw normally well-balanced adults punching each other while waving huge amounts of wonga at sobbing toy shop staff in a bid to secure 1992's mother of all Xmas presents.

Just pray, then, that your sprog doesn't come home from school demanding immediate delivery of Lauren the Puppy Fairy - described as a "Fairyland in uproar!" in which "Jack Frost has stolen the Pet Fairies magical pets".

Crikey. But if you think Katie the Kitten Fairy, Harriet the Hamster Fairy and Georgia the Guinea Pig Fairy have been hit hard by Jack Frost's shameful shenanigans, that's as nothing compared to the hit your wallet is going to take down at Woolworths:

Lauren the Puppy Fairy - a snip at £99999999.99

That's right. Sit down and pour yourself a stiff medicinal brandy before adding this particular fairytale to your basket:

Lauren the Puppy Fairy - plus £2.74 P&P

As our correspondent Christopher Lewis put it: "While I REALLY want this book for my 7 year old, after I added it to my basket, it is STILL charging me £2.74 delivery - I mean, honestly! 99 million pounds and they are still not satisfied!"

Well, dad, we reckon you'll have to stump, or there'll be tears before bedtime. Quite how you'll explain it to your credit card company, we'll leave to you. ®
