LG likes Chocolate. Chocolate has done a rather good job of boosting LG's profile in the mobile phone market. And now the company hopes it'll do the same in the digital music arena. Enter the UP3 Flat, an oddly named but clearly Chocolate-inspired MP3 player soon to debut in Korea and maybe elsewhere.

It's a Flash-based device, of course, and sports a slide-out, pared down USB connector for direct insertion into a spare port, something we've not seen since the days of the iRiver - remember them? - T20. There's a thick lanyard retainer on the top, while the earphone socket's on the side, above two of the controls. Not shown here are the red lights above the arrow-shaped buttons on the front of player. In addition to playing back music, the UP3 has a voice recording facility too.

The UP3 Flat is expected to ship next year in 512MB, 1GB and 2GB versions. The 512MB is set to be priced at around KRW60,000 ($65/£33/€50). ®
