Nvidia denies GeForce 8800 GTX recall

How can we recall a product that exists only in the minds of journos and fanboys?

Nvidia has denied that it has recalled any G80-class graphics cards, less than 24 hours after admitting that... er... it has. In an email to Reg Hardware a company official today told us: "We're not recalling any boards - [it's] hard to recall something that's not announced."

Yesterday, a different company official, when asked if there was any truth in the rumours of an "8800 GTX recall" - and we used these exact words to describe it - said: "Yes, some GeForce 8800 GTX boards that were built through our contract manufacturer had a simple BOM error - wrong resistor value... we have been working with them to pull these back and change the resistor to the correct value.

"We believe we will still be able to hit our hard launch this week... with the new GeForce 8800 GTX boards."

Today, however, the second official said: "We're not blaming an 'unnamed contract manufacturer' - that is totally untrue." ®
