Nokia has announced its first dedicated satellite navigation device, details of which leaked out a few weeks ago but were mistakenly interpreted as the successor to the company's 770 internet tablet. Instead, the Nokia 330 Auto Navigation is a typical TomTom-like GPS gadget.

The 330 sports a 3.5in colour touch-screen and a speaker for spoken route guidance and for music playback - the unit doubles up as an MP3, video and photo player. The 330 ships with a 2GB Micro SD card containing Route 66 Navigate 7 navigation software and Navteq maps for UK, Ireland and continental Europe.

Nokia recently said it would offer a navigation pack for the 770. The bundle will comprise Navicore's Navicore Personal 2007 navigation utility and a Bluetooth-connected GPS receiver.

Nokia said the 330 will ship later this quarter for around €306 ($389/£205) excluding local sales tax. ®
