JBoss software makes its debut today as a member of the Red Hat Application Stack. Red Hat is also to sell JBoss middleware subscriptions for the first time through its distributors and dealers.

Red Hat bought JBoss three months ago, so today's news shows that some large software companies can be quick on their feet, when they try.

Red Hat flogs its apps stack through dealers and directly online to LAMP-lights, the army of programmers developing stuff using Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl, PHP, Python. The Red Hat bundle is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and includes JBoss Application Server, JBoss Hibernate as well as sundry open source databases, such as MySQL and PostgreSQL. The advertised price online is $1999 per year, but presumably there are some nice price breaks for volume purchasers.

Red Hat is threatening more stacks to attack telecoms, healthcare and other vertical markets, but it has not named a date yet for any releases.

Resellers wanting the gen on the JBoss distie gig should walk this way. ®
