The government is to make further cash savings thanks to higher discounts offered by Microsoft

OGCbuying.solutions said this week that "further discounts" have been delivered following the public sector's use of the licenses exceeding 1.5m.

The new higher level is expected to reduce licence fees for public sector users by more than £1m every year.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Microsoft and the OGC provides discounts on desktop software under enterprise and select agreement licences, including discounts on support packages.

OGCbuying.solutions chief executive Hugh Barrett said: "One and a half million public sector users have joined together under OGC's leadership to make the most of their combined purchasing power.

"The new discount available on enterprise agreements can now be enjoyed by all public sector bodies and the savings can be reinvested into front line public services."

MoUs between various companies helped to contribute to the £412m savings delivered by the organisation last year, confirmed OGC. ®
