Roxio has added Blu-ray Disc authoring support to its Mac-based burning tool Toast 7, the company said today.

A sign Apple is planning to equip its upcoming Mac Pro desktops with BD drives? Certainly, Mac-compatible external drives seem thin on the ground right now. However, Roxio is pitching the software not at end-users but at OEMs who want to ensure their kit works with Macs.

Roxio said it expects them to ship "later this quarter". It didn't say when the retail version of Toast would be upgraded with BD support.

Toast 7 with BD Support will allow users with the right hardware to burn both single- and dual-layer BD-R and BD-RE media. The software is compatible with both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs. ®
