Cisco buys Meetinghouse to bolster wireless security
Network bouncer software controls access
Cisco is to acquire privately held wireless security firm Meetinghouse Data Communications for $43.7m in cash and stock.
The deal, announced on Thursday, enables the network giant to bolster its security portfolio with the Meetinghouse's client-side wireless security software.
The technology (based on the 802.1X standard) allows organisations to restrict network access solely to authorised users or host devices across both wired and wireless networks. Cisco said Meetinghouse's AEGIS SecureConnect products will enable it to offer unified wired and wireless client software to its customers.
Cisco's deal to acquire Meetinghouse is expected to close before the end of October. After this, Meetinghouse's team of 77 workers and products will become part of Cisco's Wireless Networking Business Unit. ®
