Pure Digital, the digital radio company, yesterday unveiled its latest odd-looking tuner. The Bug Too adds PVR-like recording, MP3 playback and alarm-clock functionality to its predecessor's feature list.

The big enhancement is the addition of SD Card storage. Bung in a card full of MP3 files, and the Bug Too will let you navigate around the card's folders for the song of your choice, which you can then play or select as the clock's alarm.

The card can also be used to store recorded radio shows, selected on an ad hoc basis or using the machine's integrated electronic programme guide. Recordings can also be kept on a connected MiniDisc player, Pure said, or copied to a PC via a USB cable.

The DAB radio also features what Pure calls ReVu, which allows you to pause and rewind live radio broadcasts, PVR-fashion. Alas, you can only store "around four minutes on a typical station" in this manner, Pure admitted. However, the radio also allows users to pause DAB broadcasts' scrolling text so they can make a note of song titles and so on.

Backed up with a two-year warranty the Bug Too goes on sale in the UK later this month for £100. ®
