The Mozilla Foundation last week fixed multiple vulnerabilities in its popular Firefox web browser.

The bugs in the open source browser affect Mozilla Firefox 1.x and Mozilla Firefox 0.x. Unpatched systems are vulnerable to cross-site scripting and HTTP response smuggling attacks and other flaws. Users risk having their system compromised by hackers unless they apply security updates, issued by Mozilla on Friday.

Secunia, the security notification outfit, describes the updates as highly critical. It says the bugs stem from a variety of flaws including an error in the sandbox protection of Firefox's JavaScript implementation, memory corruption bugs, and a vulnerability in the handling of specially crafted HTTP responses. In all there are nine bugs.

Fortunately, the fix is straightforward: update to Firefox version 1.5.0.4. Mozilla recently updated Firefox to incorporate automatic update features, so a large percentage of users will have already been prompted to apply this security update.

For the rest of you, Secunia's advisory contains instructions on what to do and links to security notices by Mozilla. ®
