Motorola unveils 'thinnest' slider phone

Still thicker than the SLVR

Motorola today announced a slider phone that's a mere 14.8mm thick. Called simply the Z - for no other reason than it's the last letter of the alphabet, Moto bosses said - the handset sports a 2.2in display, a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, an MP3 player and the company's now standard cut-metal keypad - two of them in this case.

The Z isn't the thinnest phone around. It's not even the thinnest Motorola handset - that honour goes to the 11.5mm SLVR, and even the RAZR is thinner, at just 14.5mm - but it's still pretty lithe for a slider phone.

The device was designed in Korea, where it got its first public outing yesterday and where it will ship first, later this month for around KRW500,000 ($525), according to a Korea Times report. The phone will subsequently be launched across Asia and later around the rest of the world. ®
