Samsung has upped the storage capacity of its YP-T8Q and YP-U1Q Flash-based digital music players to 2GB, the company said today.

The YP-T8Q has a 1.8in colour display for photos and MPEG 4 videos. It has five games built in, too, some of which are controlled by jiggling the player around in your hand. Ahem. If all these features make it sound like a phone, it looks a bit like one too, which probably suggests where Samsung's thinking lies.

The YP-T8Q's battery yields 20 hours' of music playback, though Samsung didn't say how long it lasts in video or slideshow modes. It's got an FM tuner, too, and can operate as a USB host to grab photos directly from cameras.

The smaller YP-U1Q is a music-only device that will run for 13 hours on a single charge. That's what the press statement said - the Samsung website claims 15 hours. It's got a basic, four-line, 128 x 64 LCD for track and status data. It operates as a USB Mass Storage device, so tracks can be dragged and dropped from any OS.

Both players support MP3, WMA, WMA DRM, WAV and Ogg music formats, and can record voice memos.

The 2GB YP-T8Q and YP-U1Q are available now for around £189 and £119, respectively. ®
