Manchester telco Your Communications has laudably decided to become a carbon neutral outfit by handing out 25,000 bags into which customers and employees can pop their old mobile handsets for recycling.

For every customer who hands over a defunct handset or swaps to the company's e-billing system it will "dedicate a tree to a local Lancashire farm, Dale Hey Farm". Your Communications is working with The CarbonNeutral Company on this planet-saving initiative, which aims to plant forests guaranteed to avoid the axe for at least 99 years.

Your Communications marketing and mobile big cheese, Paul Lawton, said: "There must be thousands of unwanted mobiles out there after Christmas so we're urging our clients and colleagues to bring them in. Also, switching to e-billing is a win-win situation, because it's cheaper and easier for customers as well as helping the environment." ®
