Intel may upgrade its Hillsboro, Oregon 200mm-wafer fab, dubbed Fab 20, to a 300mm-wafer plant, local press reports claim.

The move, noted in the Oregonian, could be followed by the construction of a further development fab, to be called D1E, at the location.

No decision has been made, it seems - these are simply options the chip giant is considering, the report implies.

The news is accompanied by separate reports that claim Intel has won $525m in funding from the Israeli government to build a new plant. The facility, Fab 28, is already in construction at Kiryat Gat. That's also the site of Intel's Fab 18. ®
