Chaos Theory cock-up

Top marks to US reseller Tiger Direct for (essentially) giving away a copy of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory to every potential customer of Leadtek's WinFast PX 7800 GT TDH graphics card.

Yes, the card does come with a copy of the game bundled alongside Prince of Persia and a host of other apps and utilities, but Tiger Direct is giving it to folk even if they don't buy the card.

To see how, visit the reseller's Leadtech WinFast product page. Click on the image of the Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for an enlarged view of the CD, and all will be revealed.

And if the company has taken the picture down by the time you read this, or has replaced it with an alternative image, what you would have seen, eminently readable from the photo, is the game's 25-digit install key, ready for anyone with a illicit copy of the game to enter and start playing.

Whoops.

Tiger Direct, Register readers may recall, is the US reseller who earlier this year attempted to sue Apple for alleged trademark infringement over the release of Mac OS X 10.4, aka Tiger. Apple was able to persuade a Florida US District Court judge not to impose an injunction banning the sale of the new operating system release. ®
