Nokia today introduced a clamshell handset for what it calls "emerging markets".

The Nokia 2652 is a Series 40-based handset with a 4096-colour 128 x 128 display but no camera, though it can receive MMS messages. It's a dual-band (900/1800) GSM device with Class 4 GPRS support, and has a WAP-capable XHTML browser. It can handle Java MIDP 1.0 downloads.

The device measures 8.5 x 4.6 x 2.3cm and weighs 96.5g when the 760mAh battery is connected. The power supply provides juice for 3-3.5 hours' talk time and 144-288 hours on stand-by.

The 2652 comes in two colours: dark grey and pearl white. Nokia said it will retail for around €100 (£67/$121) before subsidies and/or taxes.

It will ship next month in parts of Europe, along with the Middle East, Africa and the Greater China region. ®
