Creative is pitching a tiny portable video player at Asian customers, though Western consumers may baulk at its diminutive display and slimline storage capacity.

Creative MuVo VidzThe compact, 6.6 x 3.2 x 1.6cm MuVo Vidz ships with either 1GB or 512MB of Flash memory, and presents JPEG photos and MPEG 4 video on a 1.18in 65536-colour OLED screen.

As per Creative's other MuVo products, the Vidz is a music player too, supporting MP3 and WMA formats. It'll do voice recording too, and has an integrated FM receiver. It will encode direct to MP3 through a line-in facility.

The Vidz is available in three colours: silver, pink and black. At this stage it's only available in Asia, and we can see its features and size playing well with local consumers. Less so here, where punters favour Creative's more iPod-like Zen line. Indeed, the company is gearing up to ship the Zen Vision video player later this month.

Creative rival iRiver launched a Flash-based video player of its own, the U10, in July. The device is much the same size as the Vidz but incorporates a slightly larger, 2.2in display. It also provides Ogg audio support in addition to the formats backed by the Vidz. ®
