Some 700 business punters have suffered a flaky broadband service since the weekend following a major network upgrade at Nildram.

Although the ISP publicised the upcoming maintenance work, the upgrade has not proceeded as smoothly as planned.

The technical issues at Nildram associated with the major network upgrade were compounded after a switch failure on the ISP's core network floored the service on Saturday.

As a result, some customers have been without broadband since the weekend.

A spokesman for the Pipex-owned ISP told El Reg that around 700 of the ISP's 50,000 broadband customers were affected by the issue and that engineers were working towards a fix.

But one frustrated punter whose business relies on a reliable broadband service told us: "We have had zero connectivity except for 70 minutes since Saturday."

The latest message on Nildram's support line said: "Following maintenance carried out on our core network on Tuesday 5 July our ADSL customers may be experiencing a loss of connectivity. Our engineers are continuing to investigate the issues to resolve the problem." ®
