Intel knocked a couple of dollars off a number of its Centrino chip bundles at the weekend, taking in both standard Pentium M processors and low/ultra-low voltage parts.

The standard bundles affected by the move include those containing the Pentium M 770, 760, 750, 740 and 730 - all of which use the 533MHz frontside bus-supporting 915 chipset in either its integrated (915GM) or discrete (915PM) forms. Both versions are offered with either the ProWireless 2200BG or the ProWireless 2915ABG Wi-Fi adaptor.

In each case, the discount is a fixed $2, knocking between 0.3 and 0.7 per cent off the price of each bundle.

The 915-compatible LV Pentium M 758 and ULV Pentium M 738 bundles were also cut by $2, reducing bundle prices by around 0.6 per cent.

This weekend's tweaks come ahead of the chip giant's next round of major Centrino price cuts, expected to take place in July when Pentium M CPU price-tags are going to be reduced by up to 33.6 per cent, according to past reports.

Intel also took the opportunity of the Centrino pricing change to add its dual-core Pentium Extreme Edition, the 3.2GHz 840, to its price list, at $999. ®
