Don Corleone meets 50 Cent

On the bloodsoaked streets of videolandia

Rapper 50 Cent last week announced he has teamed up with Vivendi Universal Games to produce "50 Cent: Bulletproof" - a gaming extravanganza which sees the artist "in the role of a crusader taking on crime families in the New York underworld", as Reuters puts it.

Rap aficionados will, of course, see that the game's title is a nod to 50 Cent having been shot nine times. It was written by Sopranos producer Terry Winter, who also wrote the screenplay for 50 Cent's forthcoming film "Get Rich or Die Tryin" - not, we are reliably informed, a light romantic musical comedy.

What is not clear, though, is whether 50 Cent will at any level of his Mob-busting rampage meet Don Vito Corleone, star of EA Games Godfather project.

Voiced by James Caan (Sonny Corleone), Robert Duvall (Tom Hagen) and Marlon Brando himself before his (real) death last year, the Godfather will allow gamers to "create their own mob character in the game, putting themselves into the action while reliving classic moments from the fiction and experiencing original missions alongside memorable characters from the film. After a life of small-time jobs and petty thefts the player will be accepted into the Corleone family, America's most famous criminal organization. It will be up to the player to carry out orders, earn respect and make New York City their own."

Presumably, this will involve pumping the bulletproof 50 Cent full of lead as he exits a New York skyscraper via the revolving doors. And if not, why not? Surely the ganster video game genre is ripe for collaboration in the manner of Alien v Predator? Indeed, the recent announcement that both Dirty Harry and Scarface will soon be entertaining gaming youths worldwide holds the delicious prospect of When Harry Met Tony, Luca Brazzi and 50 Cent Sleep With Da Fishes and Grand Theft Corleone: Make my Day. ®
