BT has added BT Mobile business subscribers to the list of customers to whom it is offering Wi-Fi access for a pound a month.

There's a catch, of course: it's a marketing promotion aimed at attracting businesses to BT Mobile. The deal applies only to companies signing up before 31 December 2004, and only lasts for three months after sign-up. Then, the standard £5-a-month tariff. Buyers must commit to a 12-month contract, though they can cancel within the initial three-month period. Both rates include 500 minutes' access.

Hotspot coverage included in the deal extends from BT's own Openzone network through The Cloud and T-Mobile to around 20,000 sites worldwide, courtesy of roaming arrangements with Singapore's StarHub, Malaysia's maxis, Japan's NTT Com, T-Mobile, Australia's Telstra and Telecom Italia. International roaming with these sites comes at no extra cost until the end of the 2004, but all of them have reserved the right to start imposing a roaming fee next year.

This deal is already open to BT Broadband, BT Business Broadband and BT Yahoo! Broadband customers, the telco said. It offered the £1-a-month trial to broadband users earlier this month. ®
