Surrey-based ISP - V Two One - is switching its broadband punters onto Telefonica UK's DSL platform in a bid to reduce costs and provide a better service for users. Financial details behind the deal were not disclosed.

The migration of some 4,000 connections is scheduled to begin at the end of September and work is expected to last a month. Telefonica UK - part of the giant Spanish telco - has assured users that any disruption to their service will be "absolutely minimal".

Said the ISP: "V Two One believes Telefonica UK's wholesale broadband service provides the best value for money, whilst retaining an extremely high level of service and product quality, compared to that offered by other providers. This agreement will also provide V Two One with the capability to increase its range of packages and allow it to compete with other ISPs."

This mass migration of punters away from dominant fixed line telco BT is believed to be the first of its kind following the introduction of new rules by regulator Ofcom during the summer. Telefonica UK is understood to be talking to other ISPs concerning similar moves.

As a result of the new tie-up, V Two One is launching a new broadband service for £16.99 a month. ®
