Apple has asked anyone who has a certain 15in PowerBook G4 models to return the battery, which could be faulty.

The recall follows four complaints made to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission regarding batteries that have overheated. Overheating poses a fire risk, but it is not believed that any of the complaints centre on combusting cells. No injuries resulted from the faulty Lithium Ion cells.

Only some aluminium-cased PowerBooks are affected, and of these those with battery model number A1045 and battery serial numbers beginning HQ404, HQ405, HQ406, HQ407 or HQ408. The cells were made by South Korean manufacturer LG Chem in the last week of December 2003, and were installed in PowerBooks that shipped worldwide between January and August 2004.
