BT broadband customers are unable to access Geocities websites. The sites have been inaccessible for several days, according to BT Openworld customers who have written to The Register. Customers using dial-up accounts can access the site as normal.

One Reg reader wrote: "I been unable to access any geocities websites these past few days with btopenworld broadband. Works normally with dialup. Seems to be a known problem as BT have told me a lot of customers are complaining, somthing to do with dns or something technical."

A spokesman for BT said: "Yes there has been a problem. We are working on fixing it at the moment and are hopeful it will be sorted by the end of play today." The spokesman had no details on the reason for the problem. Geocities provides free web space - it hosts lots of personal home pages. And it is owned by Yahoo!, which supplies front-end content for BT broadband services.
