Hunt on for London's oldest PC
Wanted: steam-driven antiquity
IT outfit Kinitron Total IT Care Limited is on the hunt for London's oldest PC.
Launching its quest for a digital antiquity at the Internet World show in London today, the company reckons there could be some real old beasts out there still helping to keep businesses ticking over.
"Our research tells us that there are probably some very ancient computers still being used by businesses in greater London and we'd like to help the user of the oldest machine to experience the advantages of 21st century technology," said MD Xeno Andriopoulos.
The owner of London's oldest machine will win a brand spanking new PC plus support for a year.
But there are strings attached. According to the rules, it must be an Intel-based personal computer with DOS or Windows operating system, running at least one active business application on a regular basis and not just for historical reference.
Non personal computer systems (such as Mac, BBC micro) do not qualify for the competition.
Full details of the competetion can be found at kinitron.co.uk. Closing date for entries is 17 September. ®
